Judy Tate, director of Asylum Productions, LLC, is a four-time Emmy award winning writer, a producer, actor and Teaching Artist. She has been a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre for over 25 years. Her plays, productions and/or workshops include Fast Blood (EST, Passage Theatre, Hartford Stage, The Lark, Epic Theatre Ensemble, Civic Ensemble) ; Slashes of Light (EST Going to the River, CAP21, The Black and Latino Playwrights Festival and The Kitchen Theatre); Sex in the Kitchen (EST Octoberfest, CAP21), The Point and Mistaken for Genius (The Women’s Project Lab) and In the Parlour (The National Theatre, London; Civic Ensemble/the Kitchen Theatre).
Theatre awards include: Manhattan Theatre Club playwriting fellowship; the New Professional Theatre Playwriting Award; and Women in Arts and Media Collaboration Award (Honoured Finalist). Her television writing includes Another World, Days of Our Lives and As the World Turns. She’s won 4 daytime Emmys and a Writers’ Guild of America award. She is the producing artistic director of The American Slavery Project and the founding artistic director of Stargate Theatre Company a work-readiness theatre project for justice-involved young men produced by Manhattan Theatre Club's education program.
